Alec Canter is currently in his fifth year in the Architectural Engineering program at Penn State University. Alec’s primary focus within the Architectural Engineering major is Mechanical Systems. He has had two internships with a Mechanical focus during his time at Penn State that gave him two perspectives to the type of work different types of firms and positions could give him. Alec will graduate in May 2014 with a Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering (BAE).
His internships have encompassed much of the mechanical work involved with building engineering. His first internship was with a small engineering firm, Summer Consultants, Inc., which is located in McLean, Virginia. At Summer Consultants, Alec achieved a valuable understanding of HVAC engineering and BIM implementation. Most recently, Alec completed an internship with a global AE firm, AECOM Technologies, in their National Capital Office. At AECOM, Alec’s work was based in Plumbing engineering where he helped on several large healthcare projects with his proficiency in Revit.
In his spare time, Alec enjoys playing all sports, running, and the outdoors. He has also contributed greatly to the THON philanthropy during his time at Penn State by serving on numerous committees, as an overall chair for his fraternity, and dancing in THON 2013.
